Suz - Frailest China (original mix)
album: One Is A Crowd (2013)

Three years after her debut album "Shape of Fear and Bravery" Suz is back with her second work, titled "One is A Crowd" that will be released on the 31st of January 2013 for No.Mad Records, the Turin label owned by Epitome and by Ezra (Casino Royale, Dub Pigeons, Bratski Krug), producer and collaborator of the Italian singer, alongside Alessiomanna, former Casino Royale bass player, co-author of four songs of the new album. The title "One Is A Crowd", among other meanings, hints at the many little shards of her musical (and non musical) background, here gathered to form a disorganized patchwork where you can find references to Marc Bolan's famous song "Get It On" or to the "Four Quartets" by T. S . Eliot (in the track "Let One Be A Crowd"), and even the melody of the title theme of "The Yacuza" by Sydney Pollack (sampled in the chorus of "To Here and Now") or some Shakespeare's quotes (in "A Thousand Deaths" and in "Out of The Blue") In this album Suz's love for hip hop is shown, especially in the first single, "Distant Skies (Don't Say A Word)", made in collaboration with the renowned American producer KutMasta Kurt (Kool Keith, Beastie Boys Blackalicious but also NoMeansNo and Circle Jerks) and further "One Is A Crowd" ranges from soul to black music, from Bristol's Wild Bunch (with its renowned vocalists from whom Suz clearly took inspiration) to British electronic music between the 80's and the 90's. Nevertheless the eye is focused on the future, as you can perceive as an example in a dizzy song like "Frailes China" but also in the rhythmic intervenings of "To here and Now" or in "The Enemies Within". The songs "Rubber and Glue" and "bring Us Down" are then worth mentioning apart. The first one is a delicate children's rhyme like, embellished by a double bass played by the composer of the song Luca Scarrone and by a precious featuring of Angela Baraldi, The second one is a duet with Estel Luz, charming vocalist of Turin band DotVibes for the blues uptempo "Bring Us Down". The artwork of the album was made by Zooographia while the graphics for the artwork of the single is by Enjoy Falling (Francesco Eppesteigher) who collaborated with Suz for the artwork of "Shape Of Fear and Bravery" All the illustrations were taken by Ernst Haeckel's book "Kunstformen Der Natur" (1904).
Suz plays live with Alessiomanna (Bass) and Ezra (dubmaster).
