The 1927 original 78 rpm by The Aiken County String Band - Carolina Stompdown on Okeh # 45153 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Mar 20, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
From the Hidden Charms Records 78 rpm collection comes this great Hillbilly/Country string band. The virtually unknown Aiken County String Band is by some believed to be from Graniteville, South Carolina. But I haven't done any real research into this group so I'd love to hear from anybody out there with some more info. Anyways their great recordings are well worth looking for and feature some top notch mandolin work, much like the African American Dallas String Band (check one of their 78s in my videos). The flip side to this recording "Hard Times Break Down" is also very African American sounding. Try and compare Hard Times Break Down to Cannon's Jug Stompers' Madison Street Rag (both can be found somewhere on Youtube). Both those tracks also feature some killer whistling.

Artist: Aiken County String Band Title: Carolina Stompdown Recorded: September 19, 1927 in Winstom-Salem, North Carolina
