Johnson makes fine resonator instruments for a budget price. One special example in their range is the JM994-E, a small reso guitar with cutaway and a lipstick Pickup. This instrument is kind of original as it has no real model in history that it is a copy of. It takes features from different models and blends it together.

In issue 6-2011 of the german magazine AKUSTIK GITARRE, we reviewed the Johnson JM994-E. Enjoy this fingerstyle blues in E i played and recorded with this instrument. If you like it, subscribe to this channel and spread the word!

Part 1: stereo recording with 2 AKG C414 condenser mics using an Audient Mico as preamp and A/D-converter; RME Multiface audio interface via optical Digital-In into Cubase DAW; mix and mastering using DSP and plugins mostly from Universal Audio.

Part 2: using the Tesla lipstick pickup into a tube preamp into RME Multiface and Cubase.
