Sad news for hip-hop today, rap pioneer Miss Melodie has passed away at the age of 43. Music fans, welcome back to ClevverMusic. The rap world is mourning as rapper Miss Melodie was pronounced dead at 43, cause of death as of yet unknown. Miss Melodie born Ramona Parker, was a member of influential group Boogie Down Productions.

Boogie Down Productions hip hop group active from 1985-1992, pioneered the fusion of dancehall reggae and hip hop music, eventually setting the stage for gangsta rap. Miss Melodie, a Brooklyn native was once married to rapper KRS-One, also an integral part of Boogie Down. She released her debut album "Diva" on Jive Records, in 1989 and went on to score hit "Live On Stage", and she also made waves when she appeared in Queen Latifah's video "Ladies First."

Some fellow hip hop greats took to Twitter to express their sadness. Russell Simmons tweeted "RIP Ms. Melodie. a dope MC." Rapper D-Nice shared on Twitter "Rest in Peace Miss Melodi. BDP forever." along with an old school instagram photo of them together.
