DESCRIPTION:
Jay Ski used to get busy on Philly’s Q102 in 1992 doing a weekly hip-hop show. One year after that he also entered the “Battle for World Supremecy” in New York City. He made it to the second round and was defeated in the semi-finals. However the experience gained him notoriety and also the confidence to go in front of any crowd.

Jay also fell in love with radio in 1980. The first time he heard “Planet Rock” on Drexel University’s radio station, he was hooked. From that day onward, his days and nights were spent combing the radio dial for more of this “Hip-Hop” , which unfortunately at the time was near impossible to find on the radio and on the brand new station called “MTV”. As the popularity of Hip-Hop grew, Jay-Ski couldn’t wait to record rap radio shows on cassette every weekend. He was literally raised by classic radio shows such as “Street Beat with Lady B”, DJ Red Alert, and most of all by “Rap Attack” with Marley Marl and the late great Mr. Magic. This inspired him to pursue his goal of one day doing his own mixshow, one that would teach and inspire others just as he was inspired early on. He succeeded at this with “The Hip-Hop Review” on Philadelphia’s Q102, which to this day fans of the show still cherish their own old tapes of the show.
Jay eventually started spinning full time on Q102, helping the station reach number one in the Arbitron ratings until 1994 when the station changed it’s format. Being a true fan of radio since 1980, Jay-Ski wasn’t giving up that easily. He later moved to the Washington D.C. area and became the lead mixshow DJ at WKYS, Kiss F.M. He had two great years there and helped the station reach number one in the ratings. Radio-One, who owns WKYS, then bought WPHI in Jay’s home region of Philadelphia. Without hesitation, Jay left to go back home and blaze his hometown airwaves. He was spinning full time 6 days a week, sometimes 7 and was also the mixshow coordinator as well as creative services producer. After 8 years there and feeling the need to grow, Jay moved on and created mixshows at a new Philadelphia station, “Wired 96.5″.
