The distinct original Motown sound from legendary composers delighted fans throughout the decades and this collection is no exception, providing a small piece of heaven for the huge Motown Fan base. Many of the world's favourite songs from the sixties all brought together in one place.

Money (That's What I Want) - Barrett Strong, credited as the first Tamla single released 08/59. Money was eventually given to the already established Anna label and shot to number 2 in the R&B charts in the US.

Written by Berry Gordy and Janie Bradford this simple tune which explores the value of hard cash captured the imagination and the dance floors of the US.

The Miracles - Shop Around One of Smokey's early compositions with Berry Gordy tells the story of a young man excusing himself for his roaming eye. The perfect foil for the answer single Don't Let Him Shop Around by label mate Debbie Dean.

The Marvelettes - Please Mr Postman Motown's first female group to hit the big time with this much covered plea to the mailman.

The Contours - Do You Love Me featured in the 80's movie Dirty Dancing this Contours track suffered in the UK due to the inferior cover by the Dave Clark Five

The Marvelettes - Beechwood 45789 a Stevenson/Gordy/Gaye composition this simple dancer was another huge hit for Gladys, Georgeanna, Katherine and Wanda.

Martha Reeves and the Vandellas - (Love Is Like A) Heatwave. Guaranteed floor filler almost forty years after it's recording. From those opening handclaps and chanting chorus's you just know you're hooked. The former office worker for Motown really moved into the big time with this recording.
Marvin Gaye - How Sweet It Is, covered by several other Motown label mates this sweetly crooned dancer captivated Marvin's female audience and pushed him to the top.

The Four Tops - Baby I Need Your Loving - One of the groups favourite songs over here in the UK and a perfect example of Holland Dozier Holland ability to craft a sure fire hit. This has all the right ingredients.

The Velvelettes - Needle In A Haystack. Goo lang goo lang, the minute I hear that refrain I'm gone, The Velvelettes were not amongst Motown's brightest stars, but what they lacked in chart placings they gained in long term fans. Despite having a few singles the girls had to wait until this year for an album release in the UK.

Diana Ross and the Supremes - Baby Love. Possibly Motown's most well known and easily recognised song. When Holland Dozier Holland offered this song to the trio they were not over enthusiastic. Diana's nasally vocals shine through for the very first time.
