DESCRIPTION:
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov agreed that that "Russia and Japan are not interested in heating up tensions" in Northeast Asia, after meeting with former Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura, in Moscow, Tuesday.

SOT, Masahiko Komura, Deputy Vice-President of the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party (Japanese): "Prime Minister Abe has already met with President Putin 12 times. It seems that the two leaders have a very good relationship. Prime Minister Abe is seriously determined to develop Japanese-Russian relations."

SOT, Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister (Russian): "I am sure that neither Russia nor Japan is interested in heating up tensions in the region [Northeast Asia]. Like our Japanese neighbours, we want this region of the world to be stable and to allow every state to be calm in its security and to create the best possible conditions for advancing trade and economic, investment and other ties, and this is of direct interest to Russia and Japan."

SOT, Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister (Russian): "We expect that our Japanese colleagues are ready for the same open dialogue with Russia without artificial restrictions in all spheres what will create possibilities for solving all issues currently on the agenda in our relations."

SOT, Masahiko Komura, Deputy Vice-President of the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party (Japanese): "In order to fight against international terrorism and ISIS, it is very important to unite internationally on this issue, we hope for a more constructive role of Russia and Japan is ready to cooperate with Russia on this issue."
