As we continue on Episode 2 of “Journey through Lent", Fr. Warner and me will discuss these very important questions through scripture and teachings of the church in order for us to have a better understanding of Ash Wednesday during Lent.

1. Scripture readings teach us that Ash Wednesday is not just about WHAT we need to do during Lent and but also HOW we need to do it.
(Joel 2:1-2; 12-17, Matthew 1:1-6, 16-21)

2. The disposition and heart of our repentance is not an external activity but rather an inward call.

3. Lent is not just an individual journey. It is not just about “I” but also about “WE”. The call for renewal must extend from self to others.

4. There is nothing magical about Ash. Ash symbolises our acceptance of who we are: ‘we are sinners'

5. God must remain the focus and centre of all our sacrifice - whether charity and/or fasting

6. Preparation for Ash Wednesday is crucial as it allows us to introspect and discern specific areas that need change. It invites us towards a vision and direction to where God wants us to be.

RESPOND:
#1. Admit your failures, Confess your sins
#2. Don’t be afraid to seek help
#3. Begin now. Set simple goals
