Sound Offs - THE ANGRY DESERT (Gold Star Studio) (1963) - Video

DESCRIPTION:
NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (Era 3100) Out of Los Angeles, this rare obscurity recorded at Hollywood's Gold Star Studios and issued in January 1963, is none other than an ensemble of L.A.'s 'Wrecking Crew' credited as the non-existant, SOUND OFFS. Written by Era records owner, Herb Newman, (under one off his aliases, Steven Howard) 'The Angry Desert' which treads into 'Exotica' territory, features some eerie backing vocals by the BLOSSOMS which at this time included the lineup of Fanita James, Gracia Nitzsche and Darlene Love. If that thunderclap sound effect heard throughout the track sounds familiar, it's because it was utilized on quite a few recordings cut at Gold Star. A few of the stand out records include the Ronettes - 'Walking In The Rain' (1964), the Cascades - 'Rhythm of The Rain' (1963), Jimmy Cross - 'I Want My Baby Back' (1964) and the Superbs - 'On A Day When It's Raining' (1966).
