Graham Wright - Deadlines | Live in Bellwoods 34 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jun 08, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
Graham Wright points and shifts on his feet and bobs his head and the whole thing looks like he's about to burst with energy. But while his actions suggest a serious influx of hyperactivity -- Graham's casual strums, colourful dynamics and playful yelps weave thoughtful stories. In "Deadlines" he plays the understanding lover, content to spend the night just hanging out and even suggests waiting for the weekend to get a moment alone. The same patience he showed while waiting for the rain to break in his borrowed yellow rain slick. But contrasts like the raincoat against the wet green leaves and soggy grass seem fitting for a man whose day job sees him working the main stage as one quarter of Tokyo Police Club. But such is the beauty of Bellwoods isn't it? No television, no electrical outlets, no internet and certainly no advertisements -- just storytellers conjugating in mosquito-ridden grass waiting for their chance to speak up. "Traps" hums along like a one-sided conversation, filled with questions and punctuated with Dylanesque imagery.
In "No hard feelings" Graham walks the listener through adolescence recalling those moments that seemed so pinnacle at the time but get buried in the stacks of memories as you grow. But patience -- be it waiting for the rain to stop or for your lover to come home -- is what gives the good moments value. And in Graham's case, it makes for good stories later.
