DEUCE

Jerry “Deuce” Maxwell Jr. was born in the mid 1980’s and is originally from the

city of Compton California. Raised in a community affected by drugs and day to day gang violence, Deuce was given a first hand look at the realities living in one of America’s toughest ghettos. Being raised in such a troubled community has given major influence on him as a man as well as being an artist. It has taught him that tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone and that’s what ignites his drive and incredible work ethic. He began free-styling at the age of 11 and by 12 he began writing rhymes. Deuce then began to use music as an outlet to vent his frustration due to the untimely death of his older brother. He passed time by experimenting with lyrics, drum machines, and turntables that his parents bought him for Christmas. Even with his new tools, it was writing lyrics and songs that kept his attention the majority of the time.

In the summer of 2004 Deuce began taking his craft seriously by deciding that music would be his career of choice. He formed a group called “The Hustlas” with Black and Ding. In March of 2007, after a few years, nearly 100 songs, and several potential record deals that never materialized, he decided to pursue a solo career. Since then he has released a mixtape “Patiently waiting vol. 1” which gave listeners a vivid look at life through the eyes of a young man growing up in the ghetto. This included street favorites “Perfect Beat” and “Bonafide Hustla.” In January 2009, Deuce starred in his first film entitled “Streetz Keep Callin.” The film is based around Deuce’s life as an inspiring rapper in a tug-of-war between following his music dream

and his former street life. Fighting everyday temptation and life’s obstacles is a story he proves to know all to well by staying focused and making his way to the top. “Streetz keep Callin,” written and directed by Andretti Dante, is set to release winter 2009.

Deuce is currently working on his debut album which is expected to release

July 2009. He shows he has the true passion to rap about topics that to many may be categorized as “conscious hip-hop.” Through music he’s formed a strong connection with the streets and has spread awareness amongst the youth in his community by addressing topics such as politics and poverty in a sincere manor. In a recent interview Deuce stated, “ I refuse to compromise myself as an artist, I will say what needs to be said but will do so in a way that everyone can relate to, one way or another.” With his God given talent, relentless work ethic, and ability to captivate listeners he leaves them hanging on the every word. Deuce will be a force in music
