In her native Bulgaria, Dessy is a singer and TV personality, a young artist who has chatted with Mikhail Gorbachev and performed with such groups as Manhattan Transfer.

But the classically trained artist - and 2006 graduate of the Berklee College of Music - wants to break into the Western music charts. And she wants to do it her way - by infusing her style of pop and soul with the rhythms and melodies of Bulgarian folk music, or to, as she puts it, "enrich the so-famous American pop-music palette with our special and very specific Balkan rhythms and cheerful sounds."

As a multi-award winning vocalist and musician, Dessy Dobreva is well-known throughout Bulgaria, where she has anchored her own television show and participated in the highest rated program on Bulgarian TV, “Slavi's Show”. She has performed in front of audiences exceeding 50,000 people, including such high profile events as the Easter Concert (2003), and the New Years Concerts (2002 and 2003) at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia. During her three year tenure as the lead singer of Ku-Ku Band and “Slavi's Show”, she sang along with such stars as Manhattan Transfer, Dream Theater, David Coverdale, BOND, Incognito, to name a few. Among the guests on the show were also the likes of Jean-Claude Van Dame, Former Russian President, Mikhail Gorbachev (whom Dessy brought to tears with her rendition of an old Russian song!), Ray Liotta, Stephen Baldwin, Tony Palmer (Sony Music), and Bob Miller (Governor of Nevada, USA).

Dobreva studied classical piano as a child but grew up loving Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, and Stevie Wonder, as well as Bach.

Even after winning fame as a teenager, she wanted to push herself further musically and enrolled at Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating in 2006.

After her debut last July in the so-famous jazz club "The Blue Note", Dessy returned to Bulgaria to record her new album, "It's HER!". The album was released in October 2008 in Bulgaria (50 000 copies). It is a colorful play between R&B, pop, jazz & folk elements - Dessy's unique style.

In her social life, Dessy is proud to be one of Unicef’s “friends” around the world, helping to raise over 1 350 000 USD for the benefit of children with disabilities from the Mogilino institution. Dessy also supports charity campaigns such as The Avon Walk Around the World for Breast Cancer and The Bulgarian Christmas, a charity initiative which raises funds for the medical treatment of Bulgarian children, supported by the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, George Parvanov.

Dessy Dobreva’s passion, talent, versatility, achievements and fame are impressive and rare, especially at her young age. She is ardently beloved and respected by a wide audience around the world, and her angelic voice, fascinating singing and impeccable musicianship truly make her a musical force to look out for!
