dEmian

dEmian is the ongoing project of Özgür Kurcan, a brilliant modern composer of sample based electronic music from Istanbul, Turkey.
Some would try to categorize dEmian as ambient, electronica, electro, idm, downbeat, bigbeat, breakbeat, funky breaks, nubreaks etc. They would all be correct but it’s much safer to say that with each new track, the music created by Özgür are torn down and rebuilt from the ground up without giving a second thought to what the listeners may think. There are some similarities among all of his works but each track can definitely hold its own.
His first recordings were made at the age of 14. At the same time he dreamed of putting a rock band together and finally at the age of 17, he founded Siddhartha with Ege Madra and Ulas Akin with big enthousiasm. Following 5 years of busy performance schedules: festivals, organisations & concerts, they have released their debut album in 1998 that had its unique psychedelic & progressive rock sound which also consists electronic influences. Later he took music technologies and sound engineering course at Bilgi University but dropped out after 3 years. By this time Siddhartha disbanded and he continued his career as a solo artist until he co-found Siddharthasound Corporation with Orkun Öker (aka zE>x) as a collective electronic music project in 2001. The works of musicians, producers and djs who are parts of this foundation wave appeared in many projects, motion picture soundtracks and compilation albums.
In 2009, the corporation pioneered a brand new project called saint-ethique focusing on synthesizing both acoustic and electronic elements in a new set up. And this is dEmian’s latest state today.
