in the days of first mistakes when death was for the old
when the bridges seemed worth building and we believed in souls
before the concrete cracked from 
the fragile architecture

now we walk secondhand streets
from sheet-less mattress coves
recalling our teenage bedroom’s first friends’ funerals
the fragile arcs we slept in
blister back yet again
with nothing to sell except our primes
