"This one earned an honorable mention in the American Songwriter magazine two years ago. Here is some background information regarding the content of it:

The year 1876 was the centennial of American independence. Gold had been discovered in The Black Hills of South Dakota and the treaty with the Native Americans was violated. James Butler Hickok (Wild Bill) was shot in the back by Jack McCall in Deadwood, Dakota Territory. That same year, the Lakota Sioux and Cheyenne warriors left the reservation and camped on the Little Big Horn River in Montana. Colonel George Armstrong Custer unwittingly led his 7th Cavalry into a battle with what he determined to be a small band of Indians. Bad idea! In a poker game, 2 aces and 2 eights is called The Deadman’s Hand after the hand Wild Bill was holding at the time of his death." Jack Presbury
