“Dead End” is a highly intense track that only plays twice in-game, and for two very brief scenes. At the time the Materia Collective was doing track selection signups, I was watching Cowboy Bebop. I noticed how similar the opening of Yoko Kanno's “TANK!” was to the opening of “Dead End” and this thought grew to later be developed into the idea of arranging “Dead End” as a bebop-style piece. The battle-esque character of the music is what initially drew me into making this arrangement, but I wanted to strip away the atonal buildup sections in the second half of the original 1-minute track to really highlight the tiny melody and to fully develop the piece into something that wouldn't seem out-of-place on, say, a big band stage. So, I studied a bunch of Sammy Nestico scores to put this piece together--a totally eye-opening experience. As my first venture of engraving in the realm of jazz, it was quite a hurdle to overcome the comfort of my standard style of arrangement. But that said, I'm absolutely thrilled with the way this piece turned out, and I hope you enjoy listening to it as well!

Whew--projects upon projects. Hey there everyone! Apologies for the long youtube absence (the work never flippin ends!). I'm always working on new music things; I think that this year I'll have a few neat videos to throw up here. If you'd like to stay updated on the things I'm doing, I'm pretty active everywhere via the links below.

Thanks for watching and listening to "DeadEnd!"
Keep an ear out for more fun stuff soon!
