DESCRIPTION:
Silas Cordeiro, composer/performer. Dedicated to David L. Vessell (aka David Vesel), theremin enthusiast. Requiescat in pace.
I played both tracks: the theremins is a B3 PRO and the keyboard is a Yamaha PSR (Warm Pad sound, resembles a glass armonica). Keyboardists/synthesists may choose other sounds as they please. My dream is to hear a performance by Thomas Grillo on the B3 PRO accompanied by Dan Wilson on the Hammond Novachord (something similar to what they did in Alto volo - a wet, mellow and round sound texture). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhLlUKAbdSM

This composition is in ternary form (A-B-A'[+coda]). The contrasting/middle (B) section starts at 2:50 . You can think of it as a da capo aria and improvise during the reprise (A' section, at 4:48 ). The coda ends with a sustained Db chord. I chose it as kind of a brighter, lydian alternative to a tragic end in Fm.
I wrote and recorded it in 2011 when David was still broadcasting, but I was too shy to share it at that moment.
I know it's not a great composition, but it's intended to be a homage to him. Though it's no way related to his favorite style (synthpop) it sounds "American" to me because it has some chord progressions borrowed from Samuel Barber's famous Adagio.
The feel I had after writing it was similar to listening to Satie's Gymnopédies (hence the tempo marking, LOL). I love piano "consolations" - my favorite is Liszt's No. 2 in E Major, which is just breathtaking. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gr49ro-R6LQ
