www.xenbel.net It's sure taken some time, but with the arrival of 25-year-old Muscovite, Xenia Beliayeva, the first female has finally taken her place in the Datapunk circle. The label manageress and owner of Danced and Lone Records (with names including Rob Acid and Tyree Cooper) also works as A&R manageress at Ladomat 2000, does a regular radio show with Radio Xenbel on Samurai FM and, in spite of the fact that she's actually been working as a DJ since 1996, has since her recent "Kill Them All" nights at the Hamburg Gum Club been reckoned to be the hottest insider's DJ tip in Hamburg.
It was during one of her live sets, that are often interspersed with her own live vocals, that Confused, Gigolo and Datapunk producer Oliver Huntemann became aware of her exceptional voice. After an initial joint production with Huntemann and André Winter (a.k.a. D-Saw) on the 2005 Confused EP "Motorist" ("In your car"), André and Xenia joined forces once again. Along with the D-Saw-Production "Vanish", this collaboration produced not only one further joint track (released on Terrace recordings), but also and most importantly Xenia's debut single "Prototype", which has recently come out on the Al Ferox label, Dancefloorkillers.
With her two tracks for Datapunk, she is carrying on single mindedly at the crossover point between heavy bass line electrotech and industrial percussions and if nothing else, you can be certain that her vocals, of course, will be resonating beyond nightclub dance floors. "Arm Yourself With Ultra Glamour", a line in "Ultra Glamour", directs a healthy measure of scepticism, which hasn't so far caused anyone any harm yet, towards the aggression of the kind of fashion dictates spread by the media, whilst "Nanotubes" deals with the revolutionary perspectives of nanotechnology, shifting between water filtration, organic solar cells and medical diagnosis. But don't be put off, Beliayeva wants to do one thing, which is to rock. On this note, prepare yourself for the Data-girl!
