FretX Duo - Daniel Lippel & Mak Grgic - Microtonal Studies by Jeffrey Holmes - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 20, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
FretX is a guitar duo focusing on exceptional music from the 20th and 21st centuries. One of the hallmarks of much of the music articulated by FretX is innovation, utilizing many unusual tunings and techniques. Consequently, the result is individual vocabularies suitable only to the guitar. The instrument thought of as one of the great romancers in music, also turns out to be one of the most challenging instruments for which to compose. Certainly, two is better than one.

Daniel Lippel is active as a soloist, chamber musician, and recording artist. He has been the guitarist for the International Contemporary Ensemble since 2005 and new music quartet Flexible Music since 2003, and has recorded for Bridge, Tzadik, Albany, Kairos, and his own label New Focus Recordings, which he founded in 2004 and has directed since.

Mak is an innovative player, who programs music as far reaching as works from the avant-garde, film music to the great classics of guitar repertoire and transcriptions of Brahms and Kreisler. His new recording on Marquis Music entitled Cinema Verismo focuses on music used in cinema over the last few decades.
