Tamuké - Video
PUBLISHED:  Oct 15, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
Tamuké is an old shakuhachi piece from the Japanese Blowing Zen tradition. This piece honors ultimate reality and those who have passed through this life. It is a devotional piece often played in situations of mourning, calling attention to impermanence. This type of music emerges from Buddhist monasteries that used the shakuhachi as a spiritual instrument, to call attention to this present moment. This kind of music is also called "honkyoku" which roughly translates as "Origin Music." Played by Robert A. Jonas, a student of Yoshio Kurahashi sensei of Kyoto, Japan.
