DANIEL GLASS CMW KEYNOTE INTERVIEW

The music industry career of Daniel Glass began in New York discotheques in the late 1970's, and after stints at SAM Records, Chrysalis Records, SBK Records and Artemis Records, he founded what became Glassnote Entertainment Group in 2007, which now has offices world-wide. Both Rolling Stone and Billboard have acclaimed Glassnote as the top Independent label. Daniel has worked with artists like Billy Idol, Sinead O'Connor. Warren Zevon, Erykah Badu, the Pretenders and blur, and has launched the careers of Grammy Award winners Phoenix and Mumford & Sons, among many others.

So it was with great anticipation that on Thursday, May 8th as part of the 2014 Music Summit, Canadian Music Week presented a Keynote Interview with Daniel at the Toronto Marriot Hotel. The interview was conducted by the masterful Bob Lefsetz, respected music critic and author of the on-line Lefsetz Letter. He has appeared previously at CMW, most notably when he debated Kiss's Gene Simmons in 2009. In the course of an all-too-brief half hour, Bob elicited thoughts from Daniel about subjects like One Hit Wonders, the business of Artist Management, the current relevance of radio in a download age, and the reasons Daniel himself is successful. As Daniel says, "It's about belief, tenacity, patience. Patience, patience, patience."

In a conversation so packed with information that it's a miracle anyone found space to breathe, Daniel showed the talent and forward-thinking that has made Glassnote so successful today. Daniel's drive in business is perhaps best illustrated by his "Words of the Year", which include Inspired, Proactive, Confidence (mixed with arrogance) and Relentless.
