Bush of Ghosts was formed & named by Philip Greenlief in the early 21st century. It is named after the famous novel by Nigerian writer Amos Tutuola. It was a working band for period that explores where free jazz and free improvisation overlap. An extreme sensitivity to timbre is the unifying principle.

The "rhythm section" of Spirit and Damon Smith have collaborated with a wide range of musicians such as Joëlle Leandré, Peter Kowald, John Tchicai, Peter Van Bergen, Marco EneIdi, Glenn Spearman, Wadada Leo Smith & Peter Brötzmann. Greenlief, one of the finest saxophonists in the world belongs squarely in this company.

The trio was augmented by trombonist Jen Baker in the past & for this concert they are joined by the amazing Aurora Josephson, who has a long history with all three musicians.
