Maniax-Suburban Teen Punk 1980-1982 - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 28, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
The Maniax were a punk band from Fresno CA 1980-1982. Known for their Lo-Fi homemade recordings, they were also known for being so young, only 14 years old at the time they got airplay and attention from Tim Yohannan and the crew at Maximumrocknroll.
MRR was a radio show broadcast on the Pacifica Network of public radio stations in the 1980s. They really took a liking to the unusual suburban teen punk band and played and promoted the Maniax and the other bands from backwater Fresno CA.

This is the story of their brief rise to modest fame through the eyes of Co-Lead Vocalist, Gregg Mitchell and what it meant to the boys to play in a happening punk band in the early 80s. The doors of opportunity opened for the Maniax and many other small-time punk rock bands at the time and some were able to step through that door and achieve varying degrees of success.

Their crowning achievement, a track on the Maximumrocknroll compilation, Not so Quiet on the Western Front and the gig at the Mabuhay Gardens in San Francisco are reflected upon in this mini-documentary written and narrated by Gregg Mitchell and directed by Dale Stewart.
