Da’ Hitman blends a unique style of lyrical skills and witty wordplay to produce tales reminiscent of Slick Rick. A refreshing breath of creativity in the realm of Hip-Hop, which has been beleaguered by fake gangsters and wanna-be pimps. He is a true student of Hip-Hop and all of its crafts.

His first step into Hip-Hop was as a DJ. When asked about his love for Hip-Hop he credits DJ Red Alert. “I moved around quite a bit as the son of an Air Force man, but always held onto my roots. I had friends that would mail me tapes of Red Alert’s shows on KISS FM and some from WBLS. That brewed my passion for Hip-Hop and kept me popular in school since everyone wanted those tapes.” By the age of 14 he was spinning wax in the youth centers, house parties, school dances, and even in the NCO and Officer’s Clubs on base. He also had a steady flow of requests for mixtapes. “Mixtapes are getting a lot of publicity today as the best way to break new artists and DJs, but that’s been around for years.” His favorite memory of those days was meeting Melle Mel and performing as Mel’s DJ during a show in Germany. “Man, I was elbow deep in the entire Hip-Hop movement. I could break into a windmill, scratch the snot out of Run-DMC’s “Hard Times”, throw a full-blown burner up on the wall, and hold my own in the after school emcee battles. I loved everything about Hip-Hop and still do today with the same passion.”

Da’ Hitman’s microphone skills have earned him a spot on mixtapes and radio broadcasts, but he is now working towards releasing his first full length solo project titled “Unique Styles”. “My goal is to hopefully push rap back towards creativity and original thoughts and styles. Rap has been getting buried under piles of ridiculous music that is being force-fed by mass media looking to profit on trends, but there are true artists out there waiting to make their mark. Just in the D/FW area alone there’s T-Wrex, Moon Criket, Straight A, G-Man, Daddy Lo. You got EZ Eddie D still dropping knowledge with his 89.3 KNON show on Saturdays. There is a whole underground movement full of artists that have original thoughts and intelligent lyrics with vocabularies that reach beyond one syllable.” This is a very passionate issue with him as he goes into a diatribe of recent releases. He is very critical of rap artists that have “dumbed-down” the rap game. “North, south, and boss do not rhyme in any dialect. I don’t care where you came from.”

Da’ Hitman has sometimes been compared to the great lyricists of old like Rakim and Chill Rob G, but he’s not comfortable with the comparisons. “I think those are two of the best emcees that have ever blessed the mic. I like to think that I have skills, but I would never compare myself to them. They were the best rap artists. Period.” Even as he argues to step off the high pedestal of those he admires, Da’ Hitman distinguishes himself as an intelligent and articulate speaker with a deep love for Hip-Hop. “I am not trying to portray myself as a thug or gangster or pimp or player. I just twist my bars and tell my stories. Hopefully someone will listen and recognize the effort I put into wordplay.”
