Epitome Of Sound - Where Were You - Sandbag PROMO - Video
PUBLISHED:  Aug 08, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
This 45 perhaps more that any other Northern Soul classic accentuates the depth of the Northern Soul collecting abyss; how records get swallowed up by an insatiable machine of single-minded collectors who under no circumstances set free the true-classics in this calibre.
That is why even after John Manship Records imported 11 x 100 count boxes of ORIGINAL Sandbag 101 after an unforgettable “find” in Dennis West’s warehouse way back in 1978.
To be honest I never ever thought I’d ever sell them all..so the initial pricing was at £3.00 but still 2 years later when considering tiling my bathroom with the leftovers, we put them in Manship’s very first 1/2 price sale @ £1.50 that did clear a little space but I was still tripping over them for a few years to come. I even shipped boxes to Neil Rushton supplying his wholesale business to British Record Shops.. after 2 months to my disappointment he send 500 45s back to me.. it was a “Swarm” of Sandbag’s that just would not go away!
I do not remember when, where or how my very last copy was sold, sometime in the early 90s, but I bet I went straight to the Pub to celebrate!!
If only I had the vision to see how the Northern Soul explosion was about to happen and how in 20 years it would be worldwide; How I wish I’d have stashed just one of those 11 boxes away. But it caught everybody by surprise, and how 1100 copies of one title could vanished into homes around the world, supporting a former £1.50 purchase @ the easy sale level of £200 today!
Simple really when we acknowledge that there is over 100,000 NS collectors out there, and none of them are ever willing to sell, what is without question in everybody TOP TEN of all time NS dancers.
Before you today is a pristine original WHITE DEMO not one of the swarm that infiltrated the country back in 1978..but a flawless PROMO with two perfect labels… So elusive in this condition and timeless to the point of worship!
