It’s All About the Music

How about spending four months in a city that’s All Music All the Time! A place so full of clubs, studios, record labels and publishing companies that it would take you a year just to discover them all. And how about exploring that city with some seasoned professionals and 30 like-minded friends committed to helping you find your place in the ever-changing, ever-challenging music industry?

At the Contemporary Music Center (CMC) you get to do exactly that—and get 16 college credits to boot! Whether you’re thinking of pursuing a career as a songwriter, recording artist, touring musician, producer, engineer, artist manager, booking agent, record company executive or marketing guru, the CMC is the only semester-long program that gives you hands-on experience in all aspects of making and marketing music.

It’s All About the Place

Nashville. Music City. Home to everyone from Kings of Leon to Taylor Swift. From Jack White to Amy Grant. A music industry network of dozens of believers who can help you find your way to blend art, commerce and real spirituality. And about 100 CMC alum who are just a few years ahead of you and are dying to help show you the way.

It's All About the Tools

8,000 square feet of recording consoles, outboard gear, pro-quality studio monitors, digital still and video cameras, guitars, keyboards, drums, amps, and enough PA and lighting to take even the most jaded Indie Rocker to his happy place.

It’s All About the Time

4 months. 14 weeks, 24/7 to work on nothing but music. No other classes. No people looking at you funny for being “different.” An entire semester with a select group of artists, executives and techs who are ready to get serious about learning the ropes and getting a head start on their careers.

It’s All About the People

CMC co-founders Warren Pettit and Tom Willett, plus a rotating cast of adjunct faculty, bring you dozens of years of experience in the studio, on stage, and in the boardroom. You’ll get intensive instruction in recording, songwriting, performance, career development, product management, record company operations, mixing, sound reinforcement and lighting, entertainment law and music industry finance. And when you have a minute to catch your breath, Residence Life Director John Leininger will be there to make sure you have all the spiritual and social input and opportunities you need to flourish personally. Jenny Leininger, Program Administrator, keeps it all running smoothly, from the admissions process to day-to-day operations to making sure you get the credits you deserve.

It’s All About You

When it all comes down to it, the CMC is all about you. Your dreams, your ambitions. Your gifts, your skills. Your hopes, your fears. And we’re here for you, anxious to get busy helping you discover how to succeed at a career in the music industry.
