When writing a new story, article, essay
love letter or a blog post for your webpage,
It's important we obey the laws that I mention
Every single time we need to pause in a sentence.

Do the comma dance (pause) x8

A comma's just a little mark, but it's quite a concept.
Find it in a compound sentence or a complex.
Link two main ideas, both of them are simple
Put a comma right before the fanboys in the middle.
For, and, nor, but, or, yet, so.
For, and, nor, but, or, yet, so.
Like "I could have said yes, but I said no."
Put a hand in the air if you get it, let's go!
My sentence starts with a subordinating conjunction.
I'll need a comma if I want to make it function.
Like, "When I say hey, you say ho."
Hey! Ho! Hey! Ho!
Ok, we need a comma after cities and states,
And after the states, we need a comma again.
We also need a comma when scribbling dates,
Between the day and year and then one at the end.
Like "On June 28th, 1985,
In Kenosha, Wisconsin, my learning came alive."
Studied real hard, now it's 2013,
And I know my commas well, if you're with me just scream.

Commas, comma, commas everywhere
In between adjectives and adverbs when they come in a pair.
Like the cold, dark night, the yellow, hot sun.
We quickly, swiftly, magnificently jump.
Jump! Jump! Get as high as you get.
Then remember to use commas when you're writing a list.
For example, when I went to the gathering last week
I brought a sleeping bag, pillows, pizzas and fat beats.
When addressing somebody to tell them something you heard,
Or starting off a sentence with introductory words,
We throw a comma after, ugh, we need to do it.
Like: Yes, you can dance. Class, let's keep it moving.
Class, let's keep it moving. I'm not done with the teaching.
We also use commas when someone is speaking.
