Perform “Ants” single on Pancake Mountain

STARCRAWLER are a Los Angeles rock band who formed one year ago when 18 year old lead vocalist Arrow de Wilde first met guitarist Henri Cash at their Echo Park high school. Shortly thereafter, the streets of Hollywood brought them the rhythm section of Austin Smith (drums) and Tim Franco (bass).

Rough Trade Records recently released their debut single, “Ants” along with a video for the song.

The band recently visited surrealist children’s show Pancake Mountain to perform the song live in an episode. Previous artists that have appeared on Pancake Mountain include The White Stripes, The Melvins, David Yow, Henry Rollins, Katy Perry, Arcade Fire, Built To Spill and many more, though new episodes have been few and far between. Fans of the cult show include director JJ Abrams, who has long been an outspoken champion. The show’s theme song is performed by Distiller’s Brody Dalle and her son, and is a new version of their original them, written by Fugazi’s Brendan Canty and performed by Bikini Kill’s Kathi Wilcox.

The show brings together music, animation, live action segments, learning, and what has become the hallmark of the show, dance parties featuring up-and-coming and established bands. While their PBS deal is over and the future of the show is uncertain, Pancake Mountain’s online fanbase continues to watch and enjoy the show, which is like nothing else in children’s – or any – television.

Filmed the day after lead singer Arrow de Wilde turned eighteen, the Starcrawler episode features an animated sequence filmed with Dischord Records owner & punk icon Ian MacKaye, a frequent contributor to the show. He served mainly as a grip, holding a fan inches from Arrow’s face as she pretends to be stuck inside an ant colony. The DJ for the dance party is played by Allison Wolfe of Bratmobile, and dozens of other human and puppet friends join in the chaotic fun.

Ryan Adams, who recorded the band’s upcoming full-length LP, tweeted that Starcrawler is "the future of the RocknRoll legacy of bands like KISS, X, Sonic Youth & the Stooges. RAW X 1000”
