This San Jose emcee is a chameleon on the mic. He fits in anywhere. He spits with the real-life perspective of a West Coast vet. He brings a lyricism that's reminiscent of an East Coast rhymer. He starts the party off right, like a Down South emcee. His style? Well, that's hard to pinpoint. It's like his musical influences -- vast. Who is Cleetus Kasiody? A kid who grew up riding shotgun and singing along as his parents played old soul and funk songs in the car. As his tastes turned to hip-hop, he memorized early Run-DMC and Beastie Boys songs. Although he didn't know it at the time, he was training to be what he is now: A versatile wordsmith with a fury of lyrics for any audience. Among the other influences he cites are Stevie Wonder, Tupac Shakur, Marvin Gaye, Biz Markie and Ice Cube. That's a prolific and accomplished group of artists, and with this in mind, Cleetus Kasiody is aiming to attach a similar star power to his name.
