DESCRIPTION:
Austin, TX Americana band Buggaboo is Chad Pope, Clayton Colvin, and Douglas Jay Boyd,, and came to life in January of 2012. Each of the members are unique and talented singer-songwriters who have fronted previous bands, adding to their authenticity.
CHAD POPE
In keeping with the musical legacy of his fore-bearers, Chad Pope comes by his talent naturally by way of blood, church and the legendary Fort Worth blues scene. By way of blood, Chad is a tried and true third-generation Texas musician. His grandfather, William "Cotton" Pope played trumpet most notably with Porter Wagoner and Boots Randolph and his father played harmonica and sang with Mason Ruffner and James Taylor among many others.
In 2007, Chad relocated to Austin, TX and immediately fell into step with one of Austin's rising songwriters and performers, Wendy Colonna, and in 2011 Chad partnered up with his long time friend, James Hinkle a fellow Fort Worth guitarist and the two formed a power duo called "Daddies JuJu." They toured the Southeastern US and recorded "The Belgian Sessions" while on tour in Europe.
Although Chad Pope's sound can't be easily defined, one can hear that he pays tribute to many of his musical heroes in his work. On top of all these musical styles, one can also hear Chad's distinct and hysterical personality in his playing. Colonna says "He glides across the strings like Casanova and then turns around and pranks you with a lick that's just a little off - equal parts catchy and rebellious - constantly keeping your ears on point and your focus engaged."
CLAYTON COLVIN
Clayton Colvin, born in Shreveport, LA, moved to the Muscle Shoals area at five years old. He grew up playing gigs in various venues with multiple bands in the Shoals and throughout Alabama until 2005 when he had the opportunity to tour manage Fog City Record's Papa Mali for his college internship and he decided to base in Austin, TX.
After touring the country for about eight months with Papa Mali, he settled into Austin and created his own band, Dertybird, with fellow southern rocker JT Holt. Dertybird toured the south, playing with bands including The Black Crowes, Gov't Mule, and Jonathan Tyler and Northern Lights. Dertybird also played with many of Texas' staples such as Carolyn Wonderland, Bob Schneider, Bart Crow Band, Reckless Kelly, and Guy Forsythe. In August of 2011, Clayton decided to go solo with the Clayton Colvin Band and has performed with the Drive by Truckers, Rodger Creagor, and at Luckenbach.

DOUGLAS JAY BOYD
Douglas Jay Boyd is a performing musician and songwriter based in Austin, Texas. His written work and live shows are a fluid combination of a variety of musical genres, both classic and current. The listener is treated to a soulful vocalist with instantly relatable stories filled with honest and energetic confidence. Upon first impression, his upbeat rhythm and powerful delivery demonstrate his brand of rootsy blues and rock, but a closer listen reveals his appreciation of jazzy, soul-filled pop. Douglas's unique brand of music has led to supporting such acts as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Schneider, Lucas Nelson, and Devon Allman's Honeytribe.
Douglas is coming off touring Europe, the US, and Canada with The Sweetness, contributing new material that has a distinctly different flavor than that of his solo work, singing and playing cajon in his own unique style. Through playing together in that band, Douglas and fellow bandmate Vivienne Wilder have branched out with Stone by Stone, currently recording their first release, due out in late 2012. When not performing with Buggaboo, Stone by Stone, or The Sweetness, Douglas can be found playing with his own band or other Austin acts in various capacities.
