DESCRIPTION:
Claude Gomis hails from Dakar, Senegal, and currently resides in Brooklyn. Claude is a musician, singer, painter, and producer, his sphere of artistry drew from traveling and performing with his father, Rudy Gomis of Orchestra Baobab. While he started touring as a dancer and percussionist when he was a child, as a teenager he became known as a visual artist and stage designer in Dakar, creating stadium-sized concert backdrops for Youssou N’dour amongst others. In the 90s he moved to NYC and pursued his musical career, recording and touring the world with bands like Midnite, Meta and the Cornerstones and Sadao Watanabe. Claude plays a range of traditional Senegalese instruments (f.e. Akonting, Bolon) and his own compositions draw on the richness of Senegalese musical traditions while blending them with a wide range of genres, including Jazz, Reggae, Samba, Afrobeat, Hip Hop, the Blues and Bluegrass. He has released two full-length albums as a solo artist (“Asiko Brothers”, “Seeds of Baobab”).
