DESCRIPTION:

Here’s how Charles describes his composition:
Written for Solo Piano. "Lay Bare the Heart" was written in honor of the American Civil Rights leader James Farmer, creator of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE).
The title, originally coined by Johann Wolfgang Goethe, was also the title of Farmer's autobiography in 1986. Among other things in this piece, there is a reference to the civil rights song "Eyes on the Prize", a favorite of Farmer's, which periodically appears from time to time in a rather abstract and subliminal manner
Despite his great and historic accomplishments, Farmer is one of the more forgotten leaders of the civil rights movement. My hope is that this piece I've written might change this travesty.
