Terry Slater has over 50 years’ experience in the music industry, across many facets of the business including song writing, publishing, A&R, and as a promoter and manager. Terry became a-ha’s manager in 1983 after hearing a demo of the song “Lesson One” (which later became “Take On Me”) that the band had produced at John Ratcliff’s Rendezvous Studios. He set up a series of auditions for a-ha, resulting in their worldwide contract with Warner Bros Records, and the rest, as a-ha fans know, is history!

Terry continued to manage a-ha until their break in the 1990s. He had a close relationship with the Everly Brothers, for whom he had played bass in the 1960s and had introduced a-ha to the band in 1984. The Everly connection endured, and a-ha played the Everly Brothers song “Bowling Green” on their Everly Brothers guitars as a tribute to Terry (who co-wrote the song in 1967) at the final a-ha concert in Oslo on 4th December 2010. When a-ha were awarded the Royal Order of St Olav in November 2012, Terry returned the favour, leading the speeches of tribute to a-ha.
