Cherisse

Cherisse possesses a sultry tone that is reflected in her style of music which is a fusion of soul, jazz, and gospel. Cherisse is a vocalist, songwriter, actress and poet.
She has been entertaining in genres spanning from R&B to Gospel to Opera fusing all of her creative skills to produce the sultry soul style that is conveyed in her warm, rich alto tone.
Her first independent project entitled "Moans" (2003) introduced her audience to the focus of her work, tackling matters of the heart while trying to elevate minds through her socially conscious lyrics. This project earned her a nomination as Best Songwriter with the Chicago Music Awards for 2003 while garnering fans across the country. This project also captured international attention and airplay in various markets including South Africa, Tokyo, Europe and Australia.
Cherisse released her sophomore CD "Soul Journey" (2008) that speaks a louder voice while maintaining her soulful sound. This album has increased her following and has earned her a space to perform with artists including Eric Roberson, Erykah Badu, The Roots, Common, YahZarah, Kim Burrell and India Arie.
Cherisse is currently writing songs for other artists and working on her third CD to be released in 2011.
