William Kurk, Chicago-born and raised, was born into a lineage of music. Both parents musicians and performers, as well as the well respected Grandmother (Lena McLin) and Great-Grandfather (Thomas A. Dorsey). William Kurk started playing the drums, then moved to the flute, trumpet, guitar, bass, then eventually piano. He started singing in the church choir that his grandmother was the head of at age 13, and began to build an interest in the various music disciplines.
He attended Northern Illinois, and studied jazz alongside Ron Carter, as well as classical voice with Robert Sims (a voice student of Lena McLin). Kurk transfered to Columbia College Chicago, and learned a great deal under the late Bill Russo, as well as a plethora of musicians on the scene, including his own parents. William Kurk graduated in 2005 with a degree in Music Composition.
William Kurk has a line of credits that are respectable and valid to his ability, and continues to make contributions to the community by teaching piano, voice, and theory to school children and members of his church. There are three albums to his credit under his own name, and has appeared on several recordings with a long line of musicians and artists. William Kurk is continuing the tradition of his ancestors and tradition daily, and growing daily in the process.
