Coal River Mountain Charlie Morris - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 05, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
This song, from The Forest, tells the story of Coal River Mountain in West Virginia. Protesters tried to stop a coal company from leveling the mountain to get at the coal, pointing out that it would have made a good site for a wind-powered electrical plant, but they were unsuccessful. Coal from mountaintop-removal mines, which have devastated millions of acres all over Appalachia, is heavily used by Tampa Electric (TECO) among others.

As our country phases out coal power, let's not forget about the people who still make their living in this 19th-century industry. The regions where King Coal reigns are some of the poorest in our country, and we can't just throw these people away.
