DESCRIPTION:
After playing with Tadd Dameron in 1953, Charli Persip toured &
recorded with Dizzy Gillespie's big & small bands from 1953-1958.
Charli then joined Harry Edison's quintet & later the Harry James
Orchestra before forming his own group, the Jazz Statesmen with Roland Alexander, Freddie Hubbard, & Ron Carter in 1960. Charli Persip also toured for several years as a drummer & conductor with Billy Eckstine.
Charli has earned a reputation as a superb educator. Since 1974,
Charli Persip has been instructor of drums & music, for Jazzmobile Inc. – New York. He is currently Associate Professor at the New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music in Manhattan. As a teacher, Charli ranks among the best. As a instructor he is also a popular attraction at drum clinics, & gives lecture-demonstrations at the nations most prestigious schools: Howard University, University of Massachusetts, Ohio State University, & North Texas State University.
He has lead his own big band, Supersound, for over 25 years. The band instills the power of a big band with a small group, loose feel.
Supersound is truly a unique jazz orchestra.
