Charlie Cheney - Whippoorwill - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 07, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
I drove past the old Whippoorwill Tavern this morning, we used to go there pretty often on Friday nights when I was a kid. We'd order one of three things... fish, chicken, or shrimp, all deep fried. Then we'd play table football afterwards, and this strange game of hockey with pink Brach's wintergreen lozenges, three at a time. There was an arcade game there too, with what looked and felt like a real 22-rifle and that's where I learned to site a rifle. When the kids got bored we'd go hike up the back hill and listen to the whippoorwills sing. There was a cable someone had tied to a tree at the top so you could pull yourself up the trail, which was dirt and really steep. I remember getting shrimp a lot for a while, then switching to fish for a while. Funny how memories work, I must have been under 10 years old for much of it.

I'm in a touring acoustic dup now, that's how I spend most of my time. Come see a show sometime, we're traveling the country. Find out if we're playing nearby at http://sugarstill.com
