Born and raised in Texas and growing up listening to what would later be the most influential music in his life, Chancy Bernson realized that you have to work hard to get anywhere. Hearing the household names in music like George Strait, Garth Brooks and many others, Chancy began to notice that there was more out there than just going to work everyday. He got his first guitar as a present while in middle school and began learning the basics. It didn’t take long for frustration to set in, and he quit. It wasn’t until the age of 20 when Chancy bought his first acoustic guitar and started writing songs. It was open mic nights on 6th street in Amarillo that really got him focused on this drug called music. Week after week went by and friends were made that were trying to do the same thing Chancy was doing. Once introduced to the famous Golden Light Cantina, Chancy began getting opportunities to open for names like Mike McClure, Stoney Larue, Blue Edmondson, Walt Wilkins and many others that were making the way for other artists. He also began traveling around the Texas Panhandle with other local bands (Copperhead, Casey Berry, Dirty Sancho) opening their shows with an acoustic guitar. After a couple of years, Chancy had his first band. The shows were coming in but it wasn’t an every weekend thing. The next thing to come would be to put out a CD of original music, something to get a name out there. After a year and a half of recording, the album titled “I Did All This” was released in 2008. Soon after, Chancy was playing on a regular basis and headlining shows at the Midnight Rodeo and the Golden Light Cantina. He was also getting to play the summer festivals such as Homer’s Backyard Ball and The Nazareth Suds and Sounds, sharing the stage with artists like Aaron Watson, Coodergraw, 1100 Springs, Stoney Larue, Johnny Cooper and many others. Now Chancy is armed with a solid new album titled “Changes”, that captures an original Texas songwriting feel for everyday of the week. Recorded in a studio built in the garage of Jerry Hodges, the music started to flow. With Jerry and son Chris Hodges at the mixer, the experience was there for a solid foundation. For the first time, Chancy recorded a song that he did not write. This song is titled “Hurricane” and was written by good pal Gary Wayne Thomason from Amarillo. Everyone that played on the album was from Amarillo. “There is so much hidden talent here, it’s crazy!”, Chancy said. “I am grateful for everyone that helped out on this thing, it’s almost like I am having a kid or something with this album. It’s a symbol of work and determination.” With the first single titled “Amarillo” to hit radio, Chancy hopes this album can have an impact on anyone that is willing to listen.
