CWM RHONDDA (BREAD OF HEAVEN) - Cerys Matthews - Video
PUBLISHED:  Oct 12, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
The much-loved tune "Cwm Rhondda" was composed by John Hughes in the early years of the 20th. century, the decade that witnessed the great Welsh Awakening of 1904/05. The words of the hymn were written by the noted 18th. century preacher and hymn-writer William Williams, or "Williams Pantycelyn" as he is often known.

Cerys's rendition is here set to a selection of Edwardian tinted postcard views of the Rhondda Valley (Cwm Rhondda), showing the area exactly as it would have been known to John Hughes, and to Evan Roberts when he brought the Welsh Revival to the Rhondda in November, 1904.
