Celtic Legacy - Emerald (1998) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 23, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
A rare filmed performance of Celtic Legacy covering Thin Lizzy's Emerald from the very earliest days of the band. This show was performed on June 21st 1998 as the Dublin launch for the first album which had been released a few weeks earlier. The venue chosen was Dublin's Mean Fiddler.

Although the venue had been booked weeks in advance, the infamous Celtic Legacy bad luck struck when drummer Phil McEvoy developed a perforated stomach ulcer 48 hours before the concert and had to be rushed to hospital. Former Stomp drummer and old friend, Dezzie Joy stepped in at the last minute to deputise and the concert went ahead without any rehearsals for him to familiarise himself properly with the band's original material. The only alternative would have been to cancel the gig and lose the money we'd already paid out in advance to hire the venue. So Dezzie saved our asses.

Dezzie had to be coached on-stage as he was playing the songs and although there were some occasional errors, he came through with flying colours. But as a result of Phil's absence, the showcase the band had planned couldn't be properly performed as band members were restricted from being free to play to the rehearsed standard while they did their best to ensure the band got from song to song without too many obvious errors. The show also features Italian guitarist Alessio Roic's only performance with the band.

A mid-summer night's dream? Not really, but not a mid-summer night's nightmare either.

Dave Morrissey: Guitars
Tommy Branagan: Vocals
Dave Boylan: Bass & Vocals
