Press Reviews "

(CLASSIC ROCK MAGAZINE )- by Geoff Barton

Bend me, shake me' Four females from Stockholm with crazy names and a fine line in bone-splintering guitar action. It's almost too good to be true.Way back at the turn of the 80s, South London all-gal band Rock Goddess came up with a song called 'Satisfied Then Crucified'. Now it's time to celebrate the arrival of a new mob of femme-metallers who're turning that title neatly on it's head. Because such is the impact of 'In Distortion We Trust', we've ended up Crucified. then Satisfied. We knew we were going on to a good thing as soon as we saw the names of these Stockholm sirens,: Mia Coldheart, Nicki Wicked, Klara Force and -best of all- Ida Evileye. The album cover depicts the black-haired Mia howling like a banshee, flanked by the other three (all blondes, it should be noted) who're draped around a smashed up Mercedes taxi bearing the numberplate HELLRIDE. It's almost too perfect.

Musically, Crucified Barbara don't dissapoint. Their raw, hyper-commercial heavy metal songs mix knuckleduster brutality with the spiteful caress of pointy painted fingernails. The comparisions might be facile but we're gonna make 'em anyway: this is Runaways crossed with Motörhead; Cherie Currie cavorting with Lemmy Kilmister; Joan Jett jiving with 'Fast' Eddie. and we can't even begin to tell you what Jackie Fox is up to.

The 11 songs on 'In Distortion.' are all about three minutes long, which suits our attention span just fine. Each is characterised by a shoutalong chorus led by Mia's rowdy vocals, bone-splintering guitar action and a pounding rhythm section that causes hairline cracks to appear in your sternum -as all good rhythm sections should.

There's both a feral electricity and an endearing naïveté to simple stompers such as 'Bad Hangover', 'Motorfucker', and the title track itself. There is also the attraction of a fine sense of humour with a uniquely swedish twist. The band sing in english, but the embarrassing carpet incident we hear about in 'I Wet Myself' would probably make a lot more sense in their native tongue. But never mind, a little Shake'N'Vac always brings the freshness back.

Elsewhere, in place of the usual female-empowerment palaver, there are tempestuous tales of lust unfullfilled. 'Rock'n'Roll Bachelor contains the lament: He was under my skin like a fucking snake/ Then I knew his heartbeats were fake 'It's been a long time since a half-decent girlband burst on to the scene, but Crucified Barbara sound like the real deal to us. Plus, we've got Mia Coldheart's mobile-phone number. Life is good.

4/5

If you were as disappointed as Hammer was by the last Donnas album, then you will probably be very pleased indeed to hear this gem of a debut album (Metal Hammer)

Blimey, the return of chick rock starts here. Those of you pining for L7, or too embarrassed to buy anything with Courtney Love on it (fair enough), will be gratified to hear Crucified Barbara, a bunch of broads who come complete with big ass riffs and comedy metal names that would have Manowar giggling into their mead

(Hard Roxx)

If Pop kitties like Britney or Christina call themselves dirty, I wanna know what CB are?

Into the store, get your copy, into the car, windows down, turn on loud and wait for the summer!!! (ROCK IT )

"The Donnas had better watch out because there are some new girls in town and they're damn tough; or are they?

Crucified Barbara are, apparently,Sweden's female equivalent to Backyard Babies-all skin-tight leather beer swilling rock bravado and sleaze guitar. They've even got the names to prove it, with Mia Coldheart on lead guitar and Nicki Wikked on drums.

Nikki Sixx eat your heart out indeed. Which leads you to ask, is this just the product of four angry young ladies playing dress up or can they actually rock out? Happily the evidence from this debut album suggests the latter, with the guitar work easily rivalling their male counterparts, while the title track is a metal anthem in the making. This breed of LA-style retro rock is always packed with clichés, but Crucified Barbara make sure it's brilliant fun all the same." (Victoria Durham - Rocksound, UK)
