"Metal is a solid material (an element, compound or alloy) that is typically hard, shiny, and can be hammered or pressed permanently out of shape without breaking or cracking."
"Music historian Ian Christie describes the meaning of "Heavy Metal": "heavy" is roughly synonymous with "potent" or "profound" and "metal" designates a certain type of mood, grinding and wieghted as with metal."
Our show shares two purposes/themes:Creating metal (Searching for materials and forging them together within a factory) while exploring classical "metal" rock music. Metal is symphonic and muscular - a fusion of traditional wind repertoire with heavy metal in both loud/heavy orchestrations and lighter textures which are melodically based. The opening segment presents the key elements that will develope throughout the show, including rythmic pulse, the establishment of melodic and rythmic cells (which are expanded later), and the use of color articulations (in which multiple sounds contribute to the attack of a note but often sustain is different sounds)...

"Metal" by Brian Balmages : Entering the foundry/gathering materials
"Foundry" by John Mackey: Forging the Metal
"Dream On" by Aerosmith: Metal cooling (Quenching)
"Heavy Metal" by Kery Poulan: The final synthesis of metal production
