Lupe Fiasco: "'ARMY' was the first Japanese Cartoon song. We did it like almost two years or two and a half years ago. We did that in Chicago, at the same studio I did Food and Liquor and The Cool, The Attic. I actually think me and my engineer, who happens to play bass, Graham [Burris], did 'ARMY' together. After 'ARMY' I was like, if I take my time actually making the songs, and giving them more layers, it might actually be some good music.

"'ARMY' was like a straight anti-war song. I respect the Armed Services: My father was in the Armed Services and my brother was in the Armed Services. I have much respect for the people that go out there and do that. I do not respect the people that send them to go fight. I do not respect why they say they should go fight. Now that Iraq is over, do you feel more free? Did you feel less free when Iraq was going on? What freedom were we fighting for? The freedom to go to McDonald's? So for me it was like, there needs to be a voice going against this recruitment commercial. There needs to be that same pure, anti-war sentiment, and political activism that made the '60s and the '70s so revolutionary."
