Taylor Swift is notorious for writing songs about her romantic relationships, but it looks like she’s now tackling female frenemies as well. The 24-year-old “Shake It Off” singer is gracing the new issue of Rolling Stone, in a wet white t-shirt might we add, and talked openly about the inspiration behind a song titled “Bad Blood” off her upcoming album, 1989.
Taylor mentioned that the song was written specifically about another female artist, and had this to say:
"For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not. She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, 'Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?'"
Taylor continued: "[Then last year] she did something so horrible. I was like, 'Oh, we're just straight-up enemies.' And it wasn't even about a guy!"
As for the specific reason things went sour between these two? Taylor said:
"It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I'm surprisingly non-confrontational -- you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her."
Taylor makes it clear the whole situation broke her heart because she’s a huge advocate for girls sticking together; however, she also made it clear the song isn’t trying to bash anyone saying she didn’t use any real callouts in the tune. So Taylor doesn’t want the media to blow this out of proportion? Too late.
"I know people will make it this big girl-fight thing. But I just want people to know it's not about a guy.” A nice change, we might add. But didn’t she also have that song “Mean” about a girl?
Now, of course we have to speculate a bit as to who the song could be about. While some think it might be Miley Cyrus because there has always been some tension between the two – Taylor reportedly called her 2013 MTV VMAs performance “disgusting” -- but the most popular guess seems to be fellow Country singer Carrie Underwood. There has been a number of reports over the years about these two feuding with each other, and not to mention Carrie’s Blown Away tour was going on at the same time as Taylor’s Red tour.
