Works by Ishii, Naito, Mallonee, Yuasa, Streber and Schimmel

Percussionist Haruka Fujii releases her first full-length solo recording Ingredients, exploring the colorful and evocative components of virtuoso repertoire for mixed percussion. Ingredients includes works by composers Joji Yuasa, Maki Ishii, Akemi Naito, Carl Schimmel, Ryan Streber, and Caroline Mallonee, several of which are premiere recordings and were written for Ms. Fujii. Aesthetically, this recording ranges through focused calm in Naito's Memory of the Woods, pulsing energy in Mallonee's duo Tomorrow Sharpened, patiently paced development in Ryan Streber's silvery Silent Sister, and wry humor in Carl Schimmel's Snood the Poultroon. The instrumentation heard on the recording comprises a diverse sonic landscape: from a turkey gobble, conduit pipes and kazoo to traditional Japanese taiko drums and temple bowls. Ms. Fujii is joined by Eric Huebner (piano), Jonathan Hammill (toy instruments), Mutsuko Fujii, Rika Fujii, Keiko Nishikawa, and Masao Yamashita (percussion).
