Question: So why do you perform under the name "Calling Matthew'?

"The name Calling Matthew for me is something special," says the singer/songwriter. "You know, not only do I love performing, but I feel I have something to say that I believe people can grab on to. For me, music is my calling to express what I need to say and that's what "Calling Matthew' means to me."

Question: So tell me about your first full-length release?

"I worked on writing that record for 4 years unknowingly, and during that time I’ve saw many heartbreaks, failures and drama; there was plenty of good times as well. Those experiences breath the emotion that comes alive on the album," says Matthew. ‘Everyone can relate in some way I think. To me that is the life behind this record."

Question: I hear you have a new album slated for this summer. Any details you want to share about the sound or the process?

"I've decided to work again with David Perceful at yellowDOG Studios in Austin. For me, I wanted to reinvent my sound on this new record. Many of these songs I wrote while on the road just playing acoustic shows. I think it was the absence of a band to work over these songs that made my writing focus more on melody and lyrics, rather than a wall of guitars and drums with a catchy hook over it. That is what we are making the basis of this recording process. It's taking simple catchy tunes and working them up. This record definitely will have a different sound, but in a very fresh, very approachable way.

Question: What would you say are some of the influences of your new album?

"I think since the writing process for this record has taken place over two years my influences have varied from song to song. I'd have to say bands like The Wallflowers, U2, The Fray, Lifehouse, Rascal Flatts, even some hip-hop has taken ahold of me at times. But in a unique way, the body of songs for the new record have come together perfectly and the end product is going to be something I hope my fans will be proud of."

Question: So while we wait on your new record coming out Summer 2010, where can we find your first self-titled album "Calling Matthew"?

"You can find it on sale CD Baby, Itunes, Yahoo Music, Dig Station, Amazon, Wal-Mart.com. The album is also available in select stores:
