Tall and Lanky at 2017 District 5 Jazz Festival - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 07, 2017
DESCRIPTION:
Tall and Lanky performed by the 2017 District Jazz top band held at Slippery Rock University. Dr. Matt White directed this song that was composed by his good friend Jeff Coffin (the tenor player for the Dave Mathews Band). Tall and Lanky has a groovy second line feel straight from New Orleans and was a blast to play. In this song, you get to hear both a trombone battle and multiple tenor sax battles! For you music nerds there are two bars of 7/4 in this blues, that's why it's so cool. Be sure to see the duet cadenza at the end!!!

Solos:
Miles Weaver -Guitar 1:47
Liz Linton -Alto Sax 2:28
Jacob Smith -Trombone 3:21
Eden Geis -Trombone 3:48

Tommy Zugell -Tenor Sax 5:05
Spencer McNeill -Tenor Sax 5:33

Tenor madness! 7:39
Tenor duet cadenza!!! 8:32

A little note about the festival:
Every year Slippery Rock hosts the PMEA District 5 Jazz Festival. This helps students like me and all the ones listed below grow and develop as a musician because you prepare for an audition, practice the festival music, rehearse with an excellent set of faculty, and lastly, you perform the music for an audience at the end of it all. I want to thank all the wonderful faculty who make this happen every year at SRU especially Dr. David Glover and Dr. Jason Kush who organizes, coordinates and runs the whole festival and auditions. I would also like to thank guest conductor Dr. Matt White for directing the top band and helping us improve our musicianship skills as well as the music for the concert.
