The Cajun Roosters are a five piece band specialising in the music of SW Louisiana, deep in the South of the USA. Over the last few years a new sound has been gaining momentum here in Europe. More and more bands have been visiting these shores bringing a new sound from over the atlantic ocean. This music is using familiar instruments like guitars, accordions and fiddles played in a way that is fresh and vibrant. Its home is in swamps and prairies of Southwest Louisiana but bands from over the seas are finding a warm welcome in clubs and festivals 3000 miles away from their roots. The music isn’t new of course, its traditions are centuries old but to many people here in Europe it comes like a breath of fresh air. With its driving beat, hearfelt emotions, and trance like melodies it strikes a chord with 21st century ears.
This music is called Cajun and Zydeco music and just like in the 1960’s with the blues, European bands are taking it and honouring its traditions whilst at the same time giving it a new twist. One of the main bands in Europe promoting this music are The Cajun Roosters. We aren’t from Louisiana but we play respect to its masters and our heroes. We dig deep into its roots (some of us in this band have been digging now for over 30 years!) and aim to share our love of this unique sound.
So who are The Cajun Roosters? Formed four years ago by some of the most respected musicians of this genre they quickly established a reputation as the band most likely to bring this music to a wider public. They were picked up by Mark Lamarr and invited to be in session on his BBC show for Radio 2 “Gods jukebox”. Previous to this UK based accordion player and vocalist Chris Hall was invited to record with the likes of Kate Bush and Bill Wyman and also recorded and appeared on TV with ex Beatle and rock god Sir Paul McCartney.
Mark Lamarr said on his show “there should be revival of this music” ………. If any band are placed to ignite this revival it’s the Cajun Roosters” Over the last few years they have headlined major festivals all over Europe whilst at the same time collaborating with US musicians on recordings and tours.
Their latest projects in the making alongside tours with major Louisiana acts is a new album featuring new vocalist Hazel Scott and an album of recordings with special guests. Already they’ve recorded with names like Cedric Watson, Dwayne Dopsie, and Corey Ledet, and are set to enter the studio later this year with The Lafayette Rhythm Devils, and Sarah Savoy. Its about working together to promote this music and bring it to a wider public in every way we can.

Die CAJUN ROOSTERS spielen Musik, deren Ursprung im tiefen Süden der USA, den Sümpfen Louisianas und den Prärien im Nordwesten New Orleans liegt. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf Cajun und Zydeco, der unverfälschten Tanzmusik aus Louisiana, gewürzt mit einer gesunden Portion Louisiana-Blues und Swamp, der regionalen Rock'n'Roll-Variante. Zwei von uns leben in England und drei sind Deutsche und die Liebe zu dieser Musik hat uns zusammengeschweisst. An vielen Wochenenden spielen wir irgendwo in Europa, meist zu fünft, manchmal aber auch für besondere Anlässe als Trio. Wir spielen Cajun und Zydeco nun schon eine geraume Zeit, einige von uns schon 30 Jahre. Wir werden dieser Musik nie überdrüssig, denn es gibt immer wieder Neues zu entdecken. Wir geben den Songs mit unserer Band einen eigenen Sound ohne aber zu weit von den Originalen abzurücken. Wir forschen immer in den Tiefen der grossen Meister aus Louisiana um die Feinheiten der Musik zu verstehen und an das Publikum weitergeben zu können. Nous sommes un groupe de cinq musiciens spécialisés dans les musiques du sud-ouest de la Louisiane, au fin fond du sud des Etats-Unis.Au menu, cajun et zydeco comme plat principal avec, comme accompagnement, du swamp blues et du rock n' roll créole et louisianais. Deux d'entre nous sont britanniques et les trois autres vivent en Allemagne. C'est l'amour de cette musique qui nous réunit et nous nous produisons presque chaque week end à travers l'Europe soit le groupe au complet soit occasionnellement en formation réduite à un trio.Il y a pas mal de temps que nous jouons cette musique, certains d'entre-nous depuis 30 ans. Nous ne nous en lassons pas car sans cesse elle nous propose de nouveaux défis et nous offre de nouvelles satisfactions musicales. Nous lui apportons notre propre sensibilité mais n'essayons pas trop de la changer. Nous préférons étudier sérieusement ses racines et essayer de comprendre ce qui en fait la richesse afin de partager avec notre public les raisons qui la rendent si excitante. Et ça se passe très bien. On espère que vous appréciez notre musique et que notre histoire vous intéresse. Wij zijn een vijfkoppige band gespecialiseerd in de muziek uit zuid/west Louisiana,diep in het zuiden van de V.S. Cajun en Zydeco vormen het hoofdgerecht met als bijgerechten Swamp Blues, Creole en Louisiana Rock ’n Roll. Twee van de bandleden komen uit Engeland de andere drie uit Duitsland, verbonden door de liefde voor deze muziek die we bijna elk weekend wel ergens in Europa spelen. Meestal in de volle bezetting maar soms ook als akoestisch trio. We spelen deze muzieksoort al een tijdje, sommige van ons al bijna dertig jaar maar het verveeld nooit, de muziek brengt altijd weer nieuwe uitdagingen en ingangen met zich mee. We geven er onze eigen draai aan maar proberen haar niet te veel te veranderen. We geven er de voorkeur aan om bij haar wortels te blijven en doen ons best haar in al haar subtiliteiten te begrijpen. Bovenal willen wij dat wat ons zo aantrekt in deze muziek delen met het publiek (en dit lukt aardig). Hopelijk beleef jij ook plezier aan onze muziek en vindt onze verhalen de moeite waard. I Cajun Roosters sono un gruppo musicale che definisce europeo, in quanto composto da alcuni dei migliori musicisti inglesi e tedeschi di Cajun e Zydeco . In poco tempo il gruppo ha acquistato notorietà come una delle più autentiche formazioni Cajun e Zydeco in Europa, con apparizioni in prima fila nei festival specializzati di Germania, Francia, Paesi Bassi, Inghilterra, Danimarca, Lussemburgo, Austria e Belgio. I Cajun Roosters sono di casa sia nei festival Cajun che nei festival di blues, di jazz, di folk e di country, grazie al vasto repertorio che consente loro di raggiungere pubblici molto diversi tra loro, e spesso di fare apprezzare la musica Cajun a chi non l'aveva mai sentita prima. Di provenienze diverse, i componenti del gruppo presentano musica delle paludi e delle praterie della Luisiana a nord ovest di New Orleans, soprattutto Cajun e Zydeco, ma anche bayou blues e rock and roll.
