Cairndhuna - Coppet Hill - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jan 14, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
Cairndhuna is an acoustic instrumental album of evocative compositions and fluid grooves by Scottish songwriters john Mackie and Murray Bruce. The John O'Groat Journal described the tunes as "soundtracks to life" and the title track as "a magnificent piece, symphonic in scope, revealing a deep love of place, and it proves yet again that the things that leave the deepest impression on us happen in childhood and youth and never leave us". Melding influences from their native Scotland to the Mississippi Delta and back, by way of a few stops around the Mediterranean, the Cairndhuna sound is wide open and unfettered by percussion or gratuitous heavyweight production. Just acoustic music vibrantly played and beautifully recorded. The album was recorded in November 1998 at Heartbeat Sound in London (which was an Aladdin's Cave of the most fantastic vintage analogue gear you'll ever encounter). John and Murray play acoustic guitars, resonator slide guitar, cello and mandolin, in various combinations, over ten tracks. Cairndhuna was engineered and produced by the wonderful Michael Klein, whose many previous production credits include albums by guitar legends Bert Jansch and John Renbourn. Animated sequences in this video are made using original artworks by the acclaimed artist Alexandra Bruce.
